Materials
I believe that every piece of clothing should feel like a masterpiece: crafted intentionally, stitched with care, and made to last a lifetime. That’s why HL only uses the highest-quality fabrics, chosen for the silhouettes they create and the impact they have on our bodies, the planet, and our garment workers. HL is committed to creating unmatched fit, the perfect silhouette, and engaging in sustainable practices, but above all, I want to make clothes that last a lifetime or more.
100% Organic Cotton
For loungewear and intimates, nothing compares. Organic cotton is ideal for comfort and health, and it’s the number one gynecologist-approved fabric for underwear because it’s breathable, hypoallergenic, and totally non-toxic. That means it’s better for your body and better for the planet. Unlike conventional cotton, organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, maintaining the health and fertility of the soil while reducing water waste and promoting biodiversity within its own ecosystem.
For thousands of years, cotton has clothed myriad civilizations, from the pyramids of Egypt to the looms of India. We honor that history by choosing a version that respects the earth and feels incredible against the skin: it’s soft, safe, and sustainable.
100% Silk
Silk has never been seen as just a fabric. It’s functioned as a status symbol, a political tool, and a cultural obsession. Created by the delicate threads of silkworms, silk is considered the gold standard thanks to its unmatched smoothness and strength. Even better? It’s biodegradable, which means even the most luxurious of textiles can return gracefully to the earth one day.
History is filled with silk lovers. Marie Antoinette adored the lightweight silks of Lyon, changing gowns several times a day and turning silk fashion into politics: wearing Lyonnais silk meant supporting the French economy. Additionally, Catherine the Great not only decorated her palaces with silk, but also promoted sericulture in Russia, encouraging the planting of mulberry trees to feed Russia’s own silkworms and reduce the country’s dependence on imports. Wearing silk is like wearing a piece of history that also happens to be a piece of art.
Bamboo Tencel
Bamboo Tencel is incredibly lightweight and buttery soft. Spun from sustainably harvested bamboo pulp, it’s created through a closed-loop process that recycles over 99% of water and solvents, leaving behind nothing but a clean, breathable fiber. Naturally antibacterial, moisture-wicking, and silky to the touch, it’s ideal for both comfort and sustainability.
Bamboo has long symbolized strength and renewal: growing tall, fast, and without the need for pesticides or excess water. Where silk tells stories of luxury and cotton tells stories of history, bamboo Tencel represents innovation: a fabric that feels like liquid on the skin and is gently returned to the environment when its story is done.
Consciously-Sourced Mesh
Mesh is HL’s magic ingredient for creating the perfect fit. Made from 90% nylon and 10% spandex, ours comes from other small businesses in the Los Angeles garment district. I chose mesh because it hugs the body like nothing else, molding to fit all shapes while creating that ideal hourglass silhouette.
My OCD makes me extremely obsessive about fit, and I am absolutely hellbent on making sure that every piece you wear from HL fits you like a dream. The mesh I’ve selected delivers on that obsession, sculpting and smoothing in all the right places without sacrificing comfort. It’s like architecture for the body.
Deadstock, Scrap, and Vintage Materials
Some of my favorite Highly Liquid pieces begin with fabric that already carries a story. Deadstock, scrap, and vintage textiles are remnants from other designers and mills, or materials produced decades ago that will never be made again. They often exist only in small quantities, which makes each find rare and unrepeatable. Instead of letting them sit forgotten, we give them a second life.
Highly Liquid also works with scraps, both from our own materials and from other brands. By repurposing what might have been discarded, we make sure nothing beautiful goes to waste. It’s our way of creating consciously while preserving the uniqueness that defines every Highly Liquid piece.
For our one-of-a-kind designs, we alter, print, and experiment until each yard of fabric becomes a heritage piece that feels more like art than clothing. Many are hand-printed or hand-knit, ensuring that no two are ever the same. Even when used in larger runs, deadstock or vintage fabrics are always noted, and you might notice small variations between pieces, which can be seen as marks of their individuality rather than imperfections.
Perfectly Imperfect
At Highly Liquid, we believe that beauty often lives in little imperfections. Our Perfectly Imperfect garments include samples, gently worn pieces, and items with small flaws that don’t meet our exact production standards, but still deserve to be loved.
In traditional fashion systems, these items might be tossed aside or destroyed. Instead, we choose to celebrate them for what they are: real, made with care, and still entirely wearable.
By keeping these pieces in circulation, we reduce textile waste and lessen our environmental footprint. The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to global waste, with millions of tons of fabric discarded each year. Offering Perfectly Imperfect items is our way of slowing that cycle.
Each item is available at a discounted price as part of our promise to reuse, repurpose, and reimagine wherever possible. These pieces may carry a tiny quirk or irregularity, but to us, that’s what makes them special.
