The Joan of Arc Bottoms celebrate our favorite warrior while surrounding her with imagery drawn from the illuminated manuscripts of the 15th century. On the front, Joan stands in shining armor as a symbol of courage, joined by motifs that once decorated devotional books of the period. The wounded swan, taken from the Grandes Heures du Duc de Berry, carries layers of symbolism from purity to martyrdom. Nearby, the zodiac Gemini twins, likely from a richly painted Book of Hours, reflects the medieval fascination with astrology and the belief that celestial movements shaped human life. Intertwined with these figures are delicate floral patterns, a characteristic of manuscript borders that gave even sacred pages a sense of liveliness. Ethically made in Los Angeles.
